New Delhi, 1st Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Sahakari Sangh Limited on September 2 at 12:30 pm via video conferencing, marking a major step in rural women’s empowerment. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will also transfer the first installment of ₹105 crore into the institution’s bank account.

The Jeevika Nidhi aims to provide affordable financial assistance at low interest rates to women associated with Jeevika’s self-help groups and community organizations. All registered cluster-level federations of Jeevika will be members of the cooperative, supported by both the Bihar and Central governments.

Alternative to High-Cost Loans
Until now, many rural women entrepreneurs relied on microfinance institutions charging 18%–24% interest, increasing their costs and reducing profits. The Jeevika Nidhi seeks to address this challenge by offering timely, large-scale loans at much lower interest rates, enabling women to expand their businesses more effectively.

Fully Digital and Transparent
The entire system will run on a digital platform, ensuring direct transfers into beneficiaries’ bank accounts with speed and transparency. To strengthen digital monitoring, 12,000 community cadres are being provided with tablets.

Boost to Women-Led Enterprises
In recent years, Jeevika women have successfully launched small enterprises and producer companies, contributing to employment generation and rural economic growth. With access to cheaper credit, their entrepreneurial journey is expected to accelerate, creating stronger community-led companies.

Mass Participation
Nearly 20 lakh women across Bihar are expected to witness the launch online. For them, the initiative represents freedom from high-cost borrowing and a chance to expand their ventures.

Towards Atmanirbhar Bihar
Officials say the scheme not only strengthens women’s empowerment but also contributes to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bihar. By promoting rural entrepreneurship, the program will create jobs, boost production, and transform local economies.

The initiative is part of PM Modi’s broader vision of “Nari Shakti”, which recognizes women not just as beneficiaries but as the driving force of social and economic transformation.
