Kolkata, 19th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal on December 20, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for two major National Highway projects worth around ₹3,200 crore. The events will take place at Ranaghat in Nadia district, where the Prime Minister will also address a public gathering.

As part of the visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the 66.7-kilometre-long four-laning of the Barajaguli–Krishnanagar section of National Highway-34 in Nadia district. He will also lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the 17.6-kilometre-long Barasat–Barajaguli section of NH-34 in North 24 Parganas district.

The projects are aimed at strengthening road infrastructure in the state and will serve as a vital connectivity corridor between Kolkata and Siliguri. Officials said the upgraded highway sections will help reduce travel time by nearly two hours, ensuring smoother traffic flow, lower vehicle operating costs and safer travel.

The improved connectivity is expected to enhance links between Kolkata and neighbouring districts of West Bengal, as well as improve access to neighbouring countries. The projects are also seen as a catalyst for economic growth in the region, with a positive impact on trade, logistics and tourism.
