New Delhi, 24th Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to Ahom general Lachit Borphukan on the occasion of Lachit Diwas, calling him a timeless symbol of courage, patriotism and true leadership.
In a message on X, the Prime Minister said Borphukan’s bravery continues to inspire generations across India. He noted that the legendary commander played a vital role in safeguarding Assam’s rich cultural identity and strengthening the spirit of unity and resilience.
“On Lachit Diwas, we remember Lachit Borphukan, a symbol of courage, patriotism and true leadership. His heroism continues to inspire generations. He played a key role in safeguarding the exemplary culture of Assam,” the Prime Minister posted.
Sharing a message in Assamese as well, PM Modi wrote, “লাচিত দিৱসৰ দিনা আমি সাহস, দেশপ্ৰেম আৰু প্ৰকৃত নেতৃত্বৰ প্ৰতীক লাচিত বৰফুকনক স্মৰণ কৰো। তেওঁৰ বীৰত্বই প্ৰতিটো প্ৰজন্মক অনুপ্ৰাণিত কৰি আহিছে। অসমৰ অনন্য সংস্কৃতি ৰক্ষাৰ ক্ষেত্ৰত তেওঁ গুৰুত্বপূৰ্ণ ভূমিকা পালন কৰিছিল।”
Lachit Diwas is observed annually to commemorate the valour of Lachit Borphukan, celebrated for his leadership in the Battle of Saraighat and his unwavering defence of Assam.
