New Delhi, 14th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, solemnly recalling the immense upheaval and pain endured during the tragic chapter in India’s history. The day, observed annually on August 14, was announced by the Prime Minister in 2021 to honor the victims and their sacrifices.

In a post on X, he paid heartfelt tribute to the “grit and resilience” of those affected, acknowledging their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to rebuild their lives. He said many of them went on to achieve “remarkable milestones” and that the day serves as a reminder to “strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other leaders also shared messages on the occasion, remembering the suffering and displacement caused by the 1947 Partition. Shah specifically criticized the Congress party for the division of the country, calling it a “dark chapter of history.” The observance is a solemn tribute to the millions who were displaced and lost their lives in the communal violence that followed the hasty division of British India.
