Brasília, 9th July:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Brazil’s highest national honour, the “Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross,” by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in a special ceremony held on Tuesday.

This prestigious award, reserved exclusively for foreign heads of state, symbolises the deepening strategic ties between India and Brazil.

Expressing gratitude, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the honour to the 1.4 billion people of India, calling it a tribute to the vibrant democracy and growing global stature of the country.

“I am deeply grateful to President Lula, the Government, and the people of Brazil for this distinguished honour. This accolade is a symbol of the enduring friendship between our two great nations,” said Prime Minister Modi.

He also lauded President Lula as the architect of the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership, noting that the award also recognized Lula’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Modi emphasised that the recognition would further inspire the people of both countries to deepen cooperation across sectors including trade, technology, energy, and global governance.

This development comes amid enhanced diplomatic engagement between India and Latin American countries, with Brazil playing a key role in multilateral forums such as BRICS and G20.
