New Delhi, 5th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday, extending an olive branch to allies, lauding the government’s decisive action, and launching a sharp attack on the opposition’s parliamentary strategy. The meeting, which took place amid a heated monsoon session, saw a strong focus on the recent military action, “Operation Sindoor,” and the ongoing political tussle over a voter roll revision in Bihar.
Among the most notable takeaways from the speech was PM Modi’s praise for Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Sources at the meeting said the Prime Minister commended Shah for becoming the longest-serving Home Minister after L.K. Advani and remarked that he had a “long way to go.” The statement was seen as a clear show of support for his close aide.
PM Modi also used the opportunity to reinforce the NDA’s foundational principles, recalling former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s efforts to bring regional leaders like George Fernandes, Bal Thackeray, and Nitish Kumar into the fold. He noted that had these alliances not been formed, the opposition would have had a free hand to “spoil the state with filthy politics.” In a message aimed specifically at allies in poll-bound Bihar, Modi said the NDA believes in letting the stronger partner take the lead and play on its strengths, fostering a sense of collective leadership.
The Prime Minister also took a swipe at the opposition, particularly the Congress, for demanding a discussion on “Operation Sindoor”—a recent and successful military operation against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan following an attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Modi called the demand a “strategic blunder,” claiming the opposition “lost badly” in the debate. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, he contrasted the opposition’s stance on the Constitution with their past resistance to the abrogation of Article 370, also invoking the Ram Temple, and urging MPs to promote sports.
Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA bloc remains defiant. Parties including the Trinamool Congress, DMK, RJD, and Congress are not backing down from their demand for a full discussion on the “Special Intensive Revision (SIR)” of electoral rolls in Bihar. They believe that remaining silent on what they consider a “critical issue” is not an option, especially ahead of their planned march to the Election Commission on Thursday.
