New Delhi, 23rd June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee on the occasion of his Balidan Divas, honouring his unparalleled courage and lifelong dedication to India’s unity and integrity.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Humble tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his Balidan Divas. He displayed unmatched courage and commitment to preserve India’s unity. His invaluable contribution to nation-building will always be remembered with deep respect.”
Dr. Mukherjee, founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a staunch nationalist, laid the ideological foundation for a united India. He is especially remembered for his opposition to Article 370 and for his efforts to fully integrate Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union. He died under detention on June 23, 1953, in Jammu and Kashmir, under circumstances that remain controversial.
