Addis Ababa, 17th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid a wreath and paid his respects at the Adwa Victory Monument in Addis Ababa, honouring the Ethiopian soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending the nation’s sovereignty during the historic Battle of Adwa in 1896.

The monument stands as a tribute to the enduring spirit of Ethiopia’s heroes and symbolises the country’s proud legacy of freedom, dignity and resilience. The Prime Minister observed a solemn moment at the memorial, acknowledging the courage and determination that shaped Ethiopia’s independent identity.

PM Modi’s visit to the Adwa Victory Monument also highlighted the deep historical connection between India and Ethiopia, a bond rooted in shared values, mutual respect and a common struggle against colonialism.

The gesture comes during the Prime Minister’s first bilateral visit to Ethiopia and reflects the continued emphasis on strengthening people-to-people and historical ties alongside the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
