PM Modi, Om Birla Pay Tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri

New Delhi, 2nd Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan.

Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Members of Parliament, former MPs, and other dignitaries also joined in paying their respects.

Earlier in the day, Speaker Om Birla visited Raj Ghat to offer homage to Mahatma Gandhi. “The life of Mahatma Gandhi is an immortal message for humanity,” Birla said, reflecting on the Mahatma’s enduring influence on social, political, and civic life.

In a message posted on X, Birla wrote, “Tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his birth anniversary. His powerful values gave new direction and energy to the Indian freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi’s life and teachings are a living inspiration for social, political, and civic life.”

Paying homage to Lal Bahadur Shastri, Birla described him as a symbol of simplicity and patriotism. “A heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, a symbol of simplicity, purity, and unparalleled devotion to the nation, on his birth anniversary. From the freedom struggle to nation-building, he played a vital role in the progress of India. The nation will always remember Shastriji, a man of unwavering patriotism, determination, and simplicity,” Birla posted.

Both leaders are remembered today not only for their contributions to India’s independence and governance but also for the timeless values they instilled in the nation.
