PM Modi Mourns Zubeen Garg’s Tragic Death in Singapore

New Delhi, 19th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed profound grief today over the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg, who died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore at the age of 52.

Garg had travelled to Singapore to participate in the 4th North East India Festival and was to perform there. He reportedly encountered breathing difficulties while scuba diving, received CPR, and was rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

In his condolence post on X, PM Modi said, “Shocked by the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg. He will be remembered for his rich contribution to music. His renditions were very popular among people across all walks of life. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called for arrangements to bring Garg’s mortal remains back to Assam, saying the state has lost “one of its favourite sons.”

Other artists and public figures across the country paid tributes to Garg. His songs, including the Bollywood hit “Ya Ali,” and his work in multiple Indian regional languages made him a beloved figure not only in Assam but nationally.
