PM Modi Mourns Demise of Veteran Litterateur Ramdarash Mishra

Calls it an “irreparable loss” to Hindi and Bhojpuri literature

New Delhi, 1st Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed profound sorrow over the demise of noted litterateur and educationist Ramdarash Mishra, describing his passing as “an irreparable loss to Hindi and Bhojpuri literature.”

Taking to X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Saddened by the passing of renowned litterateur and educationist Ramdarash Mishra Ji. His demise is an irreparable loss to Hindi and Bhojpuri literature. He will always be remembered for his popular and insightful writings. My heartfelt condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Born on August 15, 1924, in Dumri village of Gorakhpur district, Mishra was among the most respected voices in modern Hindi literature. Over a career spanning more than seven decades, he authored over 150 works, including 32 poetry collections, 15 novels, and 30 short-story anthologies. His writing reflected India’s changing social fabric while remaining deeply rooted in rural ethos.

He received the Saraswati Samman in 2021 for his poetry collection Main Toh Yahan Hoon, along with the Sahitya Akademi Award (2015) and Vyas Samman (2011) for his contributions to Hindi literature.

A former professor of Hindi at Delhi University, Ramdarash Mishra was revered for his critical essays and literary works that blended emotion, realism, and human values. His passing marks the end of an era in Hindi and Bhojpuri literature, drawing heartfelt tributes from across the literary world.
