Creator of Statue of Unity remembered as artist who immortalised India’s history and pride

New Delhi, 18th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep grief over the passing of renowned sculptor Shri Ram Sutar, remembering him as a master artist who gave India some of its most iconic landmarks.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said Ram Sutar’s extraordinary craftsmanship immortalised India’s history, culture and national pride for generations. He specifically mentioned the Statue of Unity at Kevadia, the world’s tallest statue, as one of the sculptor’s defining contributions to the nation.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Ram Sutar Ji, a remarkable sculptor whose mastery gave India some of its most iconic landmarks, including the Statue of Unity in Kevadia,” the Prime Minister said. He added that Sutar’s works would always be admired as powerful expressions of India’s collective spirit and would continue to inspire artists and citizens alike.

The Prime Minister extended heartfelt condolences to Ram Sutar’s family, admirers and all those touched by his life and work, concluding his message with “Om Shanti.”

Shri Ram Sutar, widely regarded as one of India’s most celebrated sculptors, played a defining role in shaping modern India’s monumental art landscape, leaving behind a legacy that blends artistic excellence with national identity.
