Tianjin, 1st Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China, on Monday. The meeting underscored India’s balancing role in global geopolitics as the two leaders reviewed bilateral, regional and international developments.

The discussions focused on economic, financial, and energy cooperation, with both leaders expressing satisfaction at the sustained growth in bilateral ties. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.

A key part of the dialogue revolved around the Ukraine conflict. Prime Minister Modi reiterated his support for ongoing peace initiatives and called for urgent efforts to ensure cessation of hostilities and work toward a “durable and sustainable peace settlement.”

Prime Minister Modi also conveyed to President Putin that he looked forward to welcoming him in India for the 23rd Annual Bilateral Summit later this year.

The meeting highlighted India’s dual approach—maintaining strong ties with Moscow while urging constructive dialogue to resolve pressing global crises.
