PM Modi Meets Chinese FM, Accepts SCO Summit Invitation

New Delhi, 19th Aug: In a key diplomatic engagement, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is Wang Yi’s first visit to India in three years. During the meeting, he handed over a message and an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping to PM Modi for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which will be held in Tianjin.

Following the meeting, PM Modi took to X to share his thoughts. He stated, “Since my meeting with President Xi Jinping in Kazan last year, India-China relations have made steady progress with mutual respect for each other’s interests and sensitivities. I am eagerly looking forward to our next meeting in Tianjin during the SCO summit.”

According to information from the PMO, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility at the border. He reiterated India’s commitment to finding a “fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable solution” to the ongoing border dispute. PM Modi also stressed that a stable, predictable, and constructive relationship between India and China is crucial for regional and global peace and prosperity.

The Prime Minister thanked President Xi Jinping for the SCO summit invitation and expressed his acceptance. He also extended his support for China’s presidency of the SCO summit and said he looks forward to meeting President Xi in Tianjin.
