Churachandpur, 13th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a series of development projects valued at more than ₹7,300 crore, promising a “new dawn of hope and trust” for Manipur.

Addressing a large gathering, Modi saluted the “courage and determination” of the people and described the state as a “jewel that will enhance the brilliance of the entire North East.” He underscored that the government has consistently prioritised infrastructure and welfare schemes for the border state.

Key projects include the Manipur Urban Roads and drainage plan worth over ₹3,600 crore and five National Highway projects exceeding ₹2,500 crore. The Prime Minister highlighted the ₹22,000 crore Jiribam–Imphal railway line, soon to connect the capital to the national rail network, along with the newly built Imphal Airport and expanding helicopter services.

Citing achievements in basic amenities, Modi said more than one lakh families have received free electricity connections, while piped water now reaches over 3.5 lakh households compared to just 30,000 a few years ago. Nearly 60,000 pucca houses have been built for the poor, and a new medical college in Churachandpur is training doctors for hill districts.

The Prime Minister announced a special package of around ₹3,000 crore for displaced families, with ₹500 crore earmarked for immediate relief, and reiterated his government’s focus on tribal welfare, including the Dharati Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan in 500 villages and the construction of 18 Eklavya Model Residential Schools.

Emphasising peace as the foundation for growth, Modi urged all groups to continue dialogue. “We are working with the goal of making Manipur a symbol of peace, prosperity and progress,” he said, assuring full central support for resettlement and development.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other dignitaries attended the event, which the Prime Minister described as a milestone in Manipur’s march toward stability and economic transformation.
