Tiruchirappalli, 11th March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched multiple development projects worth around ₹5,650 crore in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, boosting clean energy access and improving connectivity across the state.

The projects span key sectors including petroleum-related manufacturing, clean energy infrastructure, highways, railways and rural roads, which the Prime Minister said would generate employment opportunities and enhance ease of living for people.

“These projects about infrastructure for clean energy, petroleum-related manufacturing, highways, railways and rural roads will boost energy access, connectivity and create thousands of jobs for the youth of Tamil Nadu,” Modi said while addressing a gathering in Trichy.

A key highlight of the event was the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in the Nilgiris and Erode districts. The project, worth around ₹3,700 crore, will provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to nearly nine lakh households and several commercial establishments.

Modi said the project would also deliver major environmental benefits.
“The positive environmental impact of this project over just eight years will be similar to planting four crore trees,” he noted.

The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation the Indian Oil Corporation’s Lube Blending Plant in Chennai, describing it as one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world.

He said the plant would strengthen the Make in India initiative, meet growing industrial demand for lubricants and reduce dependence on imports.

“The increase in local production of lubricants reduces imports and saves money for the nation,” Modi said.

Highlighting the importance of rural infrastructure, the Prime Minister inaugurated 370 kilometres of rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

“These roads will connect villages with markets, healthcare facilities and educational institutions. Each road lifts the rural economy and increases ease of living,” he said.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram, aimed at diverting heavy traffic away from the historic temple complex built by Chola emperor Rajendra Chola, thereby enhancing road safety and preserving the heritage site.

In addition, several new train services were flagged off, connecting major towns including Nagercoil, Coimbatore, Rameswaram, Tirunelveli, Mayiladuthurai and Karaikkudi with other regions of the country.

The Prime Minister said the new rail services would promote tourism, boost local businesses and create employment opportunities.

Reiterating the government’s long-term development vision, Modi said the projects are part of a broader effort to accelerate infrastructure growth in the state.

“Our goal is to create a developed Tamil Nadu for a developed India,” the Prime Minister said.
