New Delhi, 23rd Feb. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arriving in Varanasi after a busy schedule in Gujarat, undertook an inspection of the recently inaugurated Shivpur-Phulwaria-Lahartara road at approximately 11 PM on Thursday.
The road, constructed at a cost of Rs 360 crore, is proving to be a boon for approximately 5 lakh residents residing in the southern part of Varanasi, including areas near BHU (Banaras Hindu University) and BLW (Bharat Locomotive Works), facilitating smoother travel towards the airport, Lucknow, Azamgarh, and Ghazipur.
Notably, the project is significantly easing traffic congestion and slashing travel time, reducing the journey from BHU to the airport from 75 minutes to just 45 minutes. Similarly, the commute from Lahartara to Kachahri has been halved, now taking only 15 minutes instead of the previous 30.
This infrastructural endeavor, which required inter-ministerial coordination involving departments such as Railways and Defence, underscores the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Varanasi’s residents.
Prime Minister Modi shared his observations on the project via his social media platform, stating, “Upon landing in Kashi, inspected the Shivpur-Phulwaria-Lahartara Marg. This project was inaugurated recently and has been greatly helpful to people in the southern part of the city.”
