Jewar, 28th March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Phase-I of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major milestone in India’s expanding aviation infrastructure and regional development push.

Developed with an investment of around ₹11,200 crore, the airport is expected to significantly enhance connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions, including Agra, Mathura, Meerut, Aligarh, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.

Calling the inauguration a “new chapter in Viksit UP, Viksit Bharat,” the Prime Minister said the state has emerged among those with the highest number of international airports in India. He noted that airports are not merely infrastructure assets but catalysts for economic growth and progress.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the project will open new opportunities for farmers, small businesses and youth, enabling agricultural produce and industrial goods to reach global markets more efficiently.

Amid ongoing global tensions, particularly in West Asia, Modi said the government is taking all necessary steps to shield citizens and farmers from disruptions in essential commodities such as fuel, fertilisers and food.

He also underlined the rapid pace of infrastructure development in the region, citing recent projects including a semiconductor facility in Noida, expansion of the Meerut Metro, and the rollout of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat rail corridor.

Emphasising the region’s emergence as a logistics hub, the Prime Minister pointed to the convergence of major freight corridors at Dadri, enhancing connectivity to ports in Gujarat and Bengal and boosting export potential.

Modi also acknowledged the contribution of farmers, particularly sugarcane growers, in supporting ethanol production, which has helped reduce India’s crude oil import dependence and saved significant foreign exchange.

Highlighting the broader aviation sector growth, he said India now has over 160 airports, with air connectivity reaching smaller towns under the UDAN scheme. He added that further expansion plans include the development of 100 new airports and 200 helipads.

The Prime Minister also announced plans to strengthen India’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) ecosystem, with a new facility coming up at Jewar to reduce dependence on foreign services and generate employment.

Reaffirming the government’s focus on infrastructure-led growth, Modi said India is making unprecedented investments to build a self-reliant and developed nation, even amid global uncertainties.
