Kolkata,22nd may : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated three redeveloped railway stations in West Bengal—Panagarh, Kalyani Ghoshpara, and Joychandi Pahar—as part of the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
The PM conducted the inauguration via video conferencing from Bikaner, Rajasthan, where he dedicated a total of 103 upgraded railway stations across the country to the public. The initiative is aimed at modernizing India’s railway infrastructure and enhancing passenger amenities.
In West Bengal alone, 100 stations have been selected for redevelopment under this scheme, with the three mentioned stations now complete and operational in their upgraded form.
Panagarh and Kalyani Ghoshpara stations fall under the Eastern Railway zone, while Joychandi Pahar is part of the South Eastern Railway. Both zones are headquartered in Kolkata.
The newly revamped stations feature improved facilities including modern waiting areas, digital information displays, enhanced lighting, better sanitation, and architectural upgrades designed for passenger comfort and convenience.
Officials stated that the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is not just about infrastructural improvements but also about reimagining railway stations as community hubs and gateways to development.
Speaking during the event, PM Modi emphasized, “These modern stations reflect the new face of Indian Railways and the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).”
The redevelopment of these stations is expected to improve connectivity, enhance passenger experience, and contribute to local economic growth.
