New Delhi, 21st Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday welcomed the implementation of the Four Labour Codes, calling it one of the most comprehensive and progressive labour reform measures undertaken in India since Independence.
The government formally notified the new codes, which are designed to empower workers while significantly easing compliance requirements for industries and businesses. The Prime Minister said the reforms will ensure minimum and timely wages, safer workplaces and improved access to social security for millions of workers.
“Shramev Jayate! Today, our Government has given effect to the Four Labour Codes. It is one of the most comprehensive and progressive labour-oriented reforms since Independence,” the Prime Minister said in a series of posts on X. He added that the reforms will promote ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and help create more remunerative employment opportunities, particularly for women and young workers.
PM Modi said the new labour framework would help build a future-ready ecosystem that protects worker rights while strengthening India’s economic growth. He said the reforms are expected to drive productivity, boost job creation and advance India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation under the Viksit Bharat vision.
The Four Labour Codes — on wages, industrial relations, occupational safety and social security — consolidate and replace 29 existing labour laws, marking a major overhaul of India’s labour governance structure.
