New Delhi, 1st Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, lauded the growing public participation in the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative, crediting it for creating greater awareness about fitness across the country.

“There are many other competitions that are becoming very popular among our young friends. Many people are coming together to participate in programs like Fit India Sundays on Cycle. These are all ways to promote fitness,” the Prime Minister said in the 128th episode of the programme.

Coinciding with the broadcast, the 51st edition of the nationwide cycling event was successfully conducted. Olympic silver-medallist and Rajasthan Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore led the rally in Jaipur, where close to 1,000 children participated.

Col. Rathore praised the Prime Minister’s continued emphasis on health and wellness, noting, “There are very few Prime Ministers in the world who make so many clarion calls focusing on the health and well-being of citizens. Shri Narendra Modi has time and again spoken about Fit India.”

He highlighted the government’s push for healthier practices—from reducing oil consumption to encouraging millets and combating obesity—adding that Sundays on Cycle has sparked a widespread fitness movement.

This week’s edition also saw journalists from various states joining the rally. Meanwhile, a dedicated Fit India Zone set up at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur, amid the ongoing Khelo India University Games, is offering interactive fitness activities including zumba, rope skipping, cycling, and physical and mental fitness assessments.

Launched in December 2024 under Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the weekly cycling initiative promotes the Prime Minister’s vision of “Fitness Ka Dose, Adha Ghanta Roz” and the national “Fight Against Obesity.”

Today, ‘Sundays on Cycle’ has grown into a nationwide community-led fitness movement, driven by over 4,000 NaMo Fit India Cycling Clubs and lakhs of regular citizens. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) supports the programme through activities at its Training Centres across states including Assam, Punjab, Manipur, Ladakh and Odisha, along with 23 National Centres of Excellence.
