Port of Spain, 4th July: In a gesture steeped in symbolism and shared heritage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a replica of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya to Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar during a ceremonial dinner held in his honour. Along with the replica, PM Modi also offered holy water from the Saryu River and the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.
Sharing the moment on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote:
“At the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, I presented a replica of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and holy water from the Saryu River as well as from the Mahakumbh held in Prayagraj. They symbolise the deep cultural and spiritual bonds between India and Trinidad & Tobago.”
The presentation of the Ram Mandir replica and sacred water is being viewed as a powerful gesture, underscoring the civilizational connection and spiritual kinship between India and the Indian-origin diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago — many of whom trace their ancestry back to the Girmitiya era.
This cultural outreach comes during PM Modi’s historic State Visit to Trinidad & Tobago, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over two decades, coinciding with the 180th anniversary of Indian indentured labourers’ arrival in the Caribbean nation.
