New Delhi, 25th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his heartfelt greetings to devotees across India and around the world as the auspicious Chhath Mahaparv commenced with the sacred ritual of Nahay-Khay.

Conveying his reverence to all vratis (devotees observing the fast), the Prime Minister highlighted the festival’s profound spiritual and cultural significance that continues to unite millions in faith and tradition.

In his message, Prime Minister Modi described Chhath as a grand festival of simplicity, discipline, and harmony, reflecting India’s deep-rooted reverence for nature and devotion to the Sun God. He noted that the holy scenes witnessed at Chhath ghats across the country inspire familial and social unity, calling the festival a reflection of India’s timeless values.

The Prime Minister further noted that Chhath has now become a global celebration, with Indian families around the world observing its rituals with devotion and pride.

“Today, Chhath is celebrated as a grand cultural festival across the globe. I pray that Chhathi Maiya blesses everyone abundantly,” he said.

Emphasizing the festival’s spiritual depth, PM Modi said, “Chhath Mahaparv represents a beautiful confluence of faith, worship, and love for nature. The offerings made to the setting and rising Sun reflect the vibrant hues of nature, while its songs and melodies are filled with divine devotion.”

Recalling his visit to Begusarai on Friday, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Bihar’s legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha, whose soulful Chhath songs have become synonymous with the festival’s devotion and emotion.

“On this sacred occasion, I am sharing some devotional songs dedicated to Chhathi Maiya that will enchant everyone who listens,” PM Modi added.

The four-day-long Chhath Mahaparv—celebrated primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Nepal—honours Surya Dev (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya for sustaining life and granting prosperity.
