New Delhi, 18th Jan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturdaydistributed over 65 lakh property cards under the SVAMITVA scheme to residents of more than 50,000 villages across 10 states and 2 Union Territories through video conferencing. The initiative aims to empower rural India by granting legal property rights and transforming village development through technology and governance.
Launched five years ago, the SVAMITVA scheme has issued over 1.5 crore property cards to date, with drone mapping aiding the process. PM Modi emphasized the scheme’s transformative impact on village planning, reducing disputes, and enabling economic opportunities by unlocking property value.
“Today, we are working with full sincerity to implement Gram Swaraj on the ground,” the PM said, adding that property cards had helped villagers access bank loans, start businesses, and secure economic stability.
Highlighting women’s empowerment, he noted that many property cards include the names of women, strengthening their rights. He also lauded initiatives like drone pilot training for women under the Namo Drone Didi Yojana.
PM Modi underlined significant progress in rural infrastructure over the last decade, including improved roads, broadband connectivity, and basic amenities such as water, electricity, and healthcare. He affirmed that the government remains committed to strengthening rural areas and fostering inclusive development.
Governors, chief ministers, and other dignitaries from across India attended the event virtually.
