New Delhi, 17th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump, with the core of their discussion revolving around the critical issue of terrorism. This significant call took place just hours before President Trump was slated to meet with Pakistan’s Army Chief.

During their detailed 35-minute exchange, Prime Minister Modi focused on “Operation Sindoor,” India’s response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack. He emphasized that India has clearly conveyed its unwavering determination to combat terrorism to the global community, referencing a proactive outreach initiated last month by seven multi-party delegations.

PM Modi also delivered a firm message regarding India’s stance towards Pakistan, asserting that India would respond decisively to any aggression. He underscored that terrorism is now perceived as a direct “war,” rather than a “proxy war,” and clarified that “Operation Sindoor” remains an ongoing operation.

Crucially, Prime Minister Modi made it explicit to President Trump that neither the India-US trade deal nor any potential mediation by the US to facilitate peace between India and Pakistan were subjects of their discussion. He reiterated India’s long-standing policy of not accepting third-party mediation in its bilateral matters and affirmed that this position remains unchanged.

Furthermore, PM Modi informed President Trump that any talks concerning the cessation of military action have occurred directly between India and Pakistan. These discussions were conducted through existing official channels between both armies and were initiated at Pakistan’s request. Towards the end of the call, President Trump extended an invitation to PM Modi for a stopover in the US on his return journey from Canada; however, Prime Minister Modi expressed his inability to accept due to his prior scheduled commitments.
