New Delhi, 15th Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday embarked on a three-nation visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Sultanate of Oman, underlining India’s commitment to strengthening partnerships rooted in shared civilisational ties and growing contemporary cooperation.
In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said the visit reflects India’s age-old connections and expanding bilateral relations with the three countries. His first stop will be Jordan, undertaken at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, marking 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan.
During his stay in Amman, the Prime Minister will hold detailed discussions with King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. He will also interact with members of the Indian community, acknowledging their role in strengthening India–Jordan relations.
From Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali, marking his first visit to the country. Addis Ababa, which also hosts the headquarters of the African Union, holds special significance following the African Union’s admission as a permanent member of the G20 during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023.
In Ethiopia, the Prime Minister will hold talks with Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali, engage with the Indian diaspora and address a Joint Session of the Ethiopian Parliament. He said he looks forward to sharing India’s democratic journey as the “Mother of Democracy” and highlighting the value of the India–Ethiopia partnership for the Global South.
The final leg of the tour will take the Prime Minister to the Sultanate of Oman, marking 70 years of diplomatic ties between India and Oman. In Muscat, he will meet the Sultan of Oman to review and strengthen the bilateral Strategic Partnership, including cooperation in trade and economic sectors.
The Prime Minister will also address the Indian diaspora in Oman, acknowledging their contribution to Oman’s development and their role in deepening India–Oman relations.
