Accra/New Delhi, 3rd July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Ghana’s highest civilian honour — Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana — by President Dr. John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, in recognition of his statesmanship and influential global leadership.
Accepting the award during his first-ever bilateral visit to the West African nation, Prime Minister Modi dedicated the honour to the 1.4 billion citizens of India. “This award is not just mine—it belongs to the youth of India, our rich cultural heritage, and the enduring ties between India and Ghana,” the Prime Minister said.
He expressed deep gratitude to the government and people of Ghana for the special gesture, affirming that the two nations’ shared democratic values will continue to strengthen their bilateral partnership.
“This honour not only symbolises our friendship but also places upon me a greater responsibility to elevate our relationship to new heights,” Prime Minister Modi remarked, adding that his historic visit to Ghana would provide fresh momentum to the ties between the two nations.
The honour was conferred at the Jubilee House, the presidential palace in Accra, where the two leaders had earlier held high-level talks and signed key MoUs in areas including culture, Ayurveda, and digital cooperation.
This recognition marks a significant moment in India-Ghana relations, highlighting New Delhi’s growing diplomatic outreach in Africa and the shared vision for peace, development, and South-South cooperation.
