New Delhi, 4th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed his profound sorrow at the passing of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who died at the age of 81 after a prolonged illness. The Prime Minister hailed Soren’s political legacy, praising his dedication to public service and his passion for empowering tribal communities.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote, “Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who rose through the ranks of public life with unwavering dedication to the people. He was particularly passionate about empowering tribal communities, the poor and downtrodden.”

He also confirmed that he had spoken with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the late leader’s son, to personally convey his condolences.

Shibu Soren, a towering figure in tribal politics and the founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), passed away at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, where he had been undergoing treatment for a month for a kidney ailment. Known as ‘Dishom Guru’ (leader of the land), his political career was defined by his central role in the movement for a separate Jharkhand state.

Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum, with President Droupadi Murmu also extending her condolences. “The demise of Shri Shibu Soren Ji is a big loss in the space of social justice,” the President posted on X, hailing him as a champion of “tribal identity” and social justice.
