New Delhi/Sambhal, 5th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district that claimed eight lives, including that of a groom, and left several others injured.
In a condolence message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X, Modi said he was “deeply saddened by the loss of lives” in the accident and extended his sympathies to the bereaved families.
“Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon,” the PM said.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
The tragic accident took place when an overcrowded car rammed into the wall of a college near Junawai in Sambhal district late Friday night. The victims included the groom, his sister, three children, and three other relatives. The injured were rushed to a nearby government hospital for treatment.
Senior police officials are investigating the cause of the crash, suspected to be due to overspeeding and overloading.
