New Delhi/Pune, 11th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Pune, Maharashtra, which has claimed the lives of at least eight people. The Prime Minister also announced financial assistance for the victims and their families.
The accident occurred in the hilly terrain of Khed tehsil when a pick-up van carrying about 30 to 35 devotees veered off the road and fell into a gorge. According to police, the victims were on their way to the Shree Kshetra Mahadev Kundeshwar Temple to mark an auspicious day of the Shravan month. The local administration and emergency services were quick to respond, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
In a post on his official ‘X’ handle, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his condolences, stating, “Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon.”
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured individuals would receive a sum of ₹50,000.
