PM Modi Condoles Loss of Lives in Stampede at Chandrababu Naidu’s Rally, Announces Ex-Gratia

New Delhi, 29th Dec. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to a mishap at a public meeting in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

PM Modi has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 Lakhs to the next kin of deceased and Rs. 50,000 to those injured in the mishap from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

The PMO tweeted, “Pained by the mishap at a public meeting in Nellore, AP. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and the injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi”

 

One more person died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday night after being injured in a stampede during a TDP program in Kandukur town in Nellore district, bringing the death toll to eight, police said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, two women died and eight others were injured after falling into a drainage canal while the Leader of the Opposition, N Chandrababu Naidu, was addressing a roadshow there.

According to initial reports, people gathered in large numbers at the venue, and there was some jostling among the public during the meeting, resulting in a stampede-like situation at the canal.

Some of those injured are being treated in hospitals.

Naidu, who immediately cancelled the meeting, announced a Rs 10 lakh amount of compensation to the deceased’s family. He also went to the hospital to see how the injured were doing.

He also asked TDP leaders to improve medical care for the injured.
