PM Modi, CM Adityanath Announce Financial Aid After SUV Falls into Canal, Killing 11 in Uttar Pradesh.

Gonda, 3rd Aug: A tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district has claimed the lives of 11 people after a vehicle carrying pilgrims plunged into the Saryu canal on Sunday. Following the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed their condolences and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families.

The accident occurred in the Itiathok police station area when an SUV, carrying 15 people, veered off a slippery road and fell into the canal. Police reports indicate the victims, who included six women, two men, and three children, were on their way to offer prayers at the Prithvinath Temple. With the help of villagers and rescue teams, 11 bodies were recovered from the submerged vehicle. Four others, including the driver, were rescued and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through a post on X, expressed his sorrow over the loss of lives. “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon,” he wrote. The Prime Minister’s Office also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from the PM National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased person and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also condoled the deaths and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured. He announced a separate financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh for the families of each of the deceased. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
