New Delhi, 5th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the loss of lives in a bridge mishap in Darjeeling, where incessant rains and landslides have caused widespread devastation.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Deeply pained by the loss of lives due to a bridge mishap in Darjeeling. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”
PM Modi assured that the government is monitoring the situation in Darjeeling and nearby areas round the clock in the wake of heavy rains and multiple landslides. He also reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to extend all necessary assistance to those affected.
The bridge mishap comes amid relentless downpours in north Bengal that have triggered landslides, road blockages, and flooding. Rescue and relief operations are underway as large parts of Darjeeling remain cut off from Sikkim and Siliguri.
