New Delhi, 9th May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the demise of renowned Bengali author Samaresh Majumdar.
“Shri Samaresh Majumdar will be remembered for his contribution to Bengali literature. His works capture different aspects of the society and culture of West Bengal. My condolences to his family. Om Shanti,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Samaresh Majumdar died on Monday evening about 5:45 p.m. The award-winning author was 79 years old.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee offered her condolences on the death of the Bengali author, calling it an “irreparable loss to the literary world.”
Majumdar is also renowned for the films ‘Uttoradhikar,’ ‘Kaalpurush,’ ‘Satkahan,’ and ‘Adventures of Detective Arjun.The writer-poet has received numerous awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award for ‘Kalbela’ in 1984.
He has also received the Anand Award and the Bankim Award. The West Bengal government bestowed the ‘Banga Bibhushan’ award on him in 2018.
