New Delhi/Khandwa, 3rd Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, that claimed lives and injured several people. He announced ex-gratia payments to support the bereaved families and the injured.
On X, the PMO posted, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in an accident at Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi”
According to media reports, the accident occurred during the immersion of Durga idols when a tractor-trolley carrying devotees overturned into a pond in Pandhana town of Khandwa district, reportedly killing 11 people, many of them minors.
Rescue operations were carried out with support from the police, SDRF, home guards, and local divers.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced ₹4 lakh compensation for each family of the deceased and ordered medical support for the injured.
