New Delhi, 22nd March: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review the evolving situation arising from the ongoing West Asia conflict and assess its impact on India.

The meeting focused on short-, medium- and long-term strategies to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential commodities, including food, fuel and energy.

A detailed presentation by the Cabinet Secretary covered the global scenario and the preparedness of various ministries. The discussions assessed potential impacts across sectors such as agriculture, fertilisers, petroleum, power, MSMEs, trade, shipping and finance.

The government reviewed fertiliser availability ahead of the Kharif season, noting that existing stock levels would ensure timely supply. It also explored alternative sourcing options to safeguard future availability.

On energy security, officials said sufficient coal stocks at power plants would help prevent electricity shortages.

The CCS also discussed measures to diversify import sources for key industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals, while identifying new export destinations to promote Indian goods.

Prime Minister Modi directed the creation of dedicated groups of ministers and secretaries to adopt a “whole-of-government” approach, with sector-specific teams working closely with stakeholders.

He emphasised the need for coordination between the Centre and states to prevent black-marketing and hoarding of essential commodities.

Describing the conflict as an evolving global challenge, the Prime Minister stressed that all efforts must be made to minimise its impact on citizens and ensure economic stability.
