PM  Modi Assesses National Heat Wave Response and Monsoon Preparedness

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting on Sunday at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg to review the ongoing heat wave situation in the country and the preparedness for the onset of the monsoon.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed that, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heat wave is expected to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, the monsoon is forecasted to be normal and above normal in most parts of the country, with below-normal rainfall anticipated in parts of Peninsular India.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of conducting regular drills to prevent and handle fire incidents. He instructed that fire audits and electrical safety audits of hospitals and other public places be carried out consistently. Furthermore, he highlighted the need for regular maintenance of fire lines in forests and the productive utilization of biomass.

The Prime Minister was also informed about the effectiveness of the “van agni” portal in the timely identification and management of forest fires.

The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary to the PM, the Cabinet Secretary, the Home Secretary, the Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the DG NDRF, the Member Secretary of NDMA, and other senior officials from the PMO and relevant ministries.
