Port of Spain, 4th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Port of Spain on Thursday for a two-day State Visit to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Caribbean nation in over two decades.
In a warm diplomatic gesture reflecting the deep ties between the two nations, Prime Minister Modi was received at the airport by Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, along with members of her Cabinet and other dignitaries. He was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour and greeted with vibrant cultural performances, showcasing the country’s rich multicultural heritage.
This historic visit, spanning July 3–4, is expected to strengthen India’s engagement with the Caribbean region and deepen bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, energy, culture, and diaspora relations.
Upon his arrival at the hotel, Prime Minister Modi was enthusiastically welcomed by members of the Indian diaspora, accompanied by several senior T&T Cabinet Ministers. The diaspora community, which shares centuries-old cultural and ancestral ties with India, turned out in large numbers to greet the Indian leader.
This visit is being closely watched as both countries aim to reinvigorate their strategic partnership, particularly in the context of India’s growing outreach to the Global South.
