Kangra, 9th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Himachal Pradesh to take stock of the devastation caused by cloudbursts, heavy rains, and landslides. The Prime Minister conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected regions before chairing a review meeting in Kangra, where he announced a relief package worth ₹1,500 crore to aid rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts in the state.
During the review, PM Modi stressed the need for a multi-dimensional approach to restore normalcy in the region. He directed officials to expedite the rebuilding of homes under the PM Awas Yojana, restoration of national highways, reconstruction of damaged schools, and the provision of livestock mini-kits to support farmers.
Recognising the hardships faced by the farming community, the Prime Minister also announced additional targeted assistance for farmers who lack power connections, ensuring they receive immediate support. He underlined the importance of water management, directing the construction of recharge structures for rainwater harvesting to improve groundwater reserves.
The government will also deploy geotagging technology to accurately assess the damage to homes and schools, enabling faster disbursal of aid under the PM Awas Yojana and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
PM Modi expressed his condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the calamity, announcing an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of those deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured. He also assured that children orphaned due to the floods will be supported under the PM CARES for Children scheme, securing their long-term welfare.
The Prime Minister interacted with families in affected areas and reassured them of the Centre’s full backing. He also met NDRF, SDRF, Army, and Aapda Mitra personnel engaged in rescue and relief, appreciating their tireless service in this difficult hour.
The Union Government has already dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central Teams to assess the extent of damage in Himachal Pradesh. PM Modi said that further support will be considered after receiving their detailed reports, along with the state’s memorandum.
“The Central Government stands shoulder to shoulder with Himachal Pradesh. All efforts will be made to help the state recover and rebuild stronger,” the Prime Minister said, underlining the government’s commitment to comprehensive relief and rehabilitation.
