New Delhi, 17th May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and the Gandhi family, accusing them of tampering with the Constitution for political gains. In a fervent defense of the Constitution’s sanctity, PM Modi vowed to safeguard its fundamental principles during an interview with India Today.
PM Modi asserted that he would not allow anyone to compromise the core tenets of the Constitution as long as he remains alive. He criticized four prominent members of the Gandhi family – Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi – for allegedly manipulating the Constitution to serve their political agendas.
Highlighting instances where he claimed the Constitution was amended for political interests, PM Modi pointed to actions taken by Nehru, Indira, and Rajiv Gandhi, including restrictions on freedom of speech and overturning court verdicts.
PM Modi particularly criticized Rahul Gandhi for publicly tearing apart a cabinet decision in 2013, which he claimed was influenced by a “remote control government.”
Emphasizing his commitment to preserving the Constitution’s integrity, PM Modi categorically stated his opposition to reservations based on religion under his leadership. He condemned any attempt to alter the Constitution and warned against divisive actions that could potentially ignite unrest in the country.
This comes in response to recent remarks by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who warned of nationwide turmoil if the BJP were to alter the Constitution. Meanwhile, BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde’s controversial call for a re-writing of the Constitution drew criticism, prompting the BJP to distance itself from his statements, asserting they did not reflect the party’s official stance.
