Meerut, 10th Jan.
The regional manager’s office of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) was sealed by a municipal corporation team on Tuesday due to an outstanding tax of Rs 29 crore. This happened while the employees were still inside the building.

After approximately five hours, the district magistrate intervened and the seal was removed.

According to a senior official, the UPSRTC regional manager’s office owes a pending house tax of Rs 29 crore. The municipal corporation had sent multiple notices to the UPSRTC officials, but they neither paid the amount nor provided satisfactory explanations.

Following the orders of senior officials, the entrance of the office was sealed today, stated the official.

Bharat Bhushan, an accountant at the UPSRTC regional manager’s office, claimed that the municipal corporation team sealed the office without informing the employees. He also mentioned that the team did not evacuate the building before sealing it. Bhushan stated that more than 35 officers and employees were present inside the office during the sealing process.

Lokesh Rajput, the in-charge regional manager, has informed his superiors about the situation and also notified the Meerut Commissioner.

Rajesh Kumar Singh, the tax officer, stated that the last notice regarding the pending house tax was issued to the regional manager’s office in November of last year. However, UPSRTC officers refused to pay, arguing that the UP Roadways office in Varanasi is exempt from house tax. They claimed that the case of Varanasi is different as the roadway’s office is located in the cantonment area.

After five hours, around 4 pm, the seal on the office door was removed with the intervention of District Magistrate Deepak Meena.
