Nagpur, 11th Sept: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat has said that patriotism and devotion to God are not separate concepts in India. Addressing the Somnath Jyotirlinga Maharudra Puja organized by the Art of Living at Mankapur Sports Stadium in Nagpur, Bhagwat emphasized, “One who truly worships God will also serve the nation, and one who authentically loves the nation will be guided by God towards devotion. This is not a matter of logic, but of experience.” Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was also present on the occasion.
Dr. Bhagwat noted that India has existed since before recorded history. Referring to Lord Shiva as the Adi Guru, he said, “There are 108 paths to realizing the one essence within all. Shiva is the source of these paths. Human beings have varied natures, and not everyone resonates with the same path. Yet, all must reach the same destination.”

He explained that the foundation of India lies in tapasya (penance). “When the essence of penance is realized, one understands that what exists within me exists in everyone, and what is in all is also within me. This relationship is not contractual but intrinsic,” he said. Comparing it to the bond between parents and children, he added that such ties are based on belongingness, not obligation.
The RSS chief stressed that while material comforts have increased globally, dissatisfaction persists. “Knowledge expanded, development occurred, yet conflicts continue. Despite advancements, the world is faltering—progress has come at the cost of environmental degradation and unrest. The solution lies with Shiva, whose path our ancestors propagated widely across villages and forests to prepare the nation as a guiding light for humanity,” he said.

Quoting socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia, Bhagwat said, “Lord Ram united North and South, Lord Krishna united East and West, but Lord Shiva is present in every particle of India. Worshipping Shiva means striving to become like Him in essence.”
During the event, Dr. Bhagwat was felicitated with a garland, shawl, and a replica of Nandi by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who lauded him as a dedicated and selfless leader. “Dr. Bhagwat continuously gives his time to the nation and society. Under his guidance, millions are engaged in patriotism and upholding dharma. For a hundred years, the RSS has worked to preserve India’s heritage and has succeeded. The organization must continue to grow, inspiring the youth towards devotion and patriotism,” he said.
