Parliament’s Winter Session Adjourned Sine Die After 15 Sittings Over 19 Days

High productivity session sees key bills passed, marathon debates on Vande Mataram and electoral reforms

New Delhi, 19th Dec: The Winter Session of Parliament, 2025, which commenced on December 1, concluded on Friday with both Houses being adjourned sine die, marking the end of a productive legislative session spanning 15 sittings over 19 days, according to an official statement.

During the session, 10 Bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha, while eight Bills were passed by both Houses of Parliament. Several of these legislations are considered crucial for advancing the national vision of “Viksit Bharat”.

A special discussion to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national song “Vande Mataram” was held in both Houses. In the Lok Sabha, the debate was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and saw participation from 65 Members, lasting 11 hours and 32 minutes. In the Rajya Sabha, 81 Members participated in a discussion that spanned 12 hours and 49 minutes, concluding with remarks from the Leader of the House.

Another major highlight was the extensive debate on Electoral Reforms, held across both Houses. The discussion engaged 62 Members in the Lok Sabha for nearly 13 hours, while in the Rajya Sabha, 57 Members deliberated on the issue for over 10 hours, with the debate concluded by the Leader of the House.

The First Batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for 2025–26 was discussed and approved, followed by the passage of the related Appropriation Bill. Parliament also passed a Bill replacing the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.

Among the key legislations cleared during the session were the Health Security Se National Security Cess Bill, the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill, 2025, and the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, which provides for a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment to rural households.

The session also witnessed the referral of the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025 to a Joint Committee of Parliament.

Reflecting strong legislative engagement, the productivity of the Lok Sabha stood at approximately 110 per cent, while the Rajya Sabha recorded about 121 per cent productivity, underscoring an active and intensive Winter Session.
