New Delhi, 11th Aug: The government is reportedly considering ending the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament prematurely, potentially on August 12, ahead of its originally scheduled conclusion on August 21. The news comes after a highly productive, albeit contentious, day in both houses, where a total of nine bills were passed on Monday.

Despite strong protests and a persistent ruckus from opposition members, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha managed to clear a significant legislative load. Four bills were passed in the Lok Sabha, while five were passed in the Rajya Sabha. This swift legislative action was seen as a clear signal of the government’s determination to pass key legislation, even amidst the parliamentary standoff.

Among the crucial bills passed in the Lok Sabha were the Income Tax Bill, the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, the National Sports Bill, and the National Anti-Doping Bill. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the two tax-related bills, which were passed without any discussion, while the other two were cleared after a brief debate.

In the Rajya Sabha, the bills that were passed included the Manipur Budget for 2025-26, the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Merchant Shipping Bill, and a bill to reserve seats for Scheduled Tribes in the Goa Assembly. The passage of these bills in a single day highlights the government’s push to conclude the legislative agenda.
