Voting in Coochbehar began this morning under tight security. The BJP has nominated sitting MP Nisith Pramanik for this seat, while the Trinamool has put forward Jagadish Basunia to challenge the Union Minister.

Coochbehar, a prominent seat in North Bengal, experienced clashes during the 2021 state elections. Four individuals were shot and killed in a confrontation with security forces outside a polling booth in Sitalkuchi, leading to the suspension of voting by the Election Commission.

Elections are also taking place today for the Alipurduars and Jalpaiguri seats in Bengal, both of which were won by the BJP in 2019. In that election, the ruling Trinamool in West Bengal secured a total of 22 seats, while the BJP won 18 seats.
