New Delhi, 29th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today delivered a strong statement in the Lok Sabha, asserting that the May 10 ceasefire with Pakistan was agreed upon only after Pakistan pleaded for it. He forcefully dismissed claims that any international leader had pressured India to halt Operation Sindoor, emphasizing India’s resolve to respond to threats.

Responding to a heated debate on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Modi directly confronted the Opposition, including Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi had questioned why the Prime Minister had not contested US President Donald Trump’s claim of having brokered the ceasefire.

Recalling a pivotal moment, the Prime Minister revealed that on the night of May 9, US Vice President JD Vance attempted to reach him for an hour. “When I called him back, he told me Pakistan was planning a big attack. My answer was that if this is Pakistan’s intention, it will have to pay a heavy price,” the Prime Minister recounted. This firm response, he underscored, highlights India’s decisive approach.

PM Modi reiterated that India’s military actions during Operation Sindoor were “non-escalatory” and were not influenced by external demands. He stressed that the ceasefire was a consequence of Pakistan’s appeal, further solidifying the government’s stance on the nation’s security and strategic autonomy.
