Hyderabad: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi participated in the ‘switch off lights’ protest called by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Wednesday, demonstrating opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
Speaking to reporters at his residence in Hyderabad, where he joined the protest, Owaisi declared the stir a success and expressed gratitude to all participants. He noted that people across the country switched off their lights for 15 minutes, between 9 PM and 9:15 PM, as a symbolic gesture of protest.
Owaisi stated that the protest aimed to send a clear message to the Narendra Modi-led government that the Waqf (Amendment) Act would severely damage Waqf boards. He further alleged that the Act is unconstitutional and violates various provisions of the Indian Constitution.
He informed that the AIMPLB plans to organize human chains and round table conferences within the next two weeks as part of its ongoing agitation. He emphasized that the protests would persist until the central government withdraws the Act.
Owaisi also took the opportunity to address the recent Pahalgam terror attack, stating that AIMIM has unequivocally condemned the incident. He expressed deep anguish over the targeting of Hindu victims after being asked their religion.
