Hyderabad, 8th Sep: All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday announced his party’s support for Justice Sudarshan Reddy, the INDIA bloc’s candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election.
In a post on X, Owaisi wrote, “Telangana CM Revanth Reddy spoke to me today and requested that we support Justice Sudarshan Reddy in the Vice Presidential election. On his appeal, our party has decided to extend support to Justice Reddy. He hails from Hyderabad and is a respected jurist. I spoke to him and conveyed my party’s full support, along with best wishes for his victory.”

The election, scheduled for September 9, was necessitated after the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including nominated MPs, will cast their votes. With 781 effective members in Parliament, a candidate requires 391 votes to win.
Currently, the NDA enjoys the backing of around 422 members, giving it a clear numerical advantage. However, Justice Reddy has expressed confidence, stating that he has secured support from parties outside the INDIA bloc and calling this contest “the most impartial election in history.”
Voting and counting of ballots will take place on the same day, September 9, with results expected by evening.
