Goalpara, 26th Feb: A massive joining programme organised by the BJP ST Morcha, Assam Pradesh, witnessed more than 5,000 people formally joining the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Agia School playground in Goalpara district on Tuesday.
The event was held under the leadership of Riya Sangma, State Secretary of BJP ST Morcha and in-charge of Goalpara ST Morcha.
Strong Garo Community Participation
Party leaders said the overwhelming response, particularly from the Garo community, marks a significant political development in a district traditionally influenced by opposition parties, especially the Congress.
The chief guest at the event was Samir Oran, National President of BJP ST Morcha and outgoing Rajya Sabha MP. Also present were Guwahati MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, State BJP ST Morcha President Horen Singh Bey, Ravindra Raju and other senior party leaders.
‘Growing Trust in BJP’
Addressing the media, Samir Oran said the BJP has ushered in a new era for tribal communities across the Northeast, adding that the large turnout reflects growing trust among tribal populations.
Riya Sangma said tribal communities, particularly the Garos, had long felt deprived of adequate recognition and development, and the scale of participation demonstrates faith in the BJP’s leadership.
BJP Goalpara District President Dipankar Nath described the event as politically significant, calling it a potential “game-changer” for the constituency.
With tribal voters often seen as a decisive factor in the district’s electoral dynamics, the large-scale induction is expected to strengthen the BJP’s organisational base in Goalpara and surrounding regions ahead of upcoming polls.
