New Delhi, 21st Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday accused the Congress leadership of sidelining its young parliamentarians out of “insecurity,” in remarks that sharpened his attack on the Opposition after a stormy monsoon session.

According to sources, PM Modi made the comments during an informal meeting in Speaker Om Birla’s office following the adjournment of the House. Opposition leaders skipped the customary get-together, but those present said the Prime Minister lamented that several bills could not be discussed due to repeated disruptions.

“Congress has some bright young MPs who could contribute meaningfully, but the leadership appears insecure about giving them space,” PM Modi was quoted as saying. Though he did not name anyone, many saw the target as obvious.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari hit back, asking, “Who has scope in BJP other than you? Amit Shah has some, but he also works at your behest. Who is left other than you two? Whatever you want happens there.”

The Opposition had been protesting throughout the monsoon session over the Special Intensive Review of electoral rolls in Bihar, leading to frequent disruptions. Despite the protests, the government managed to push through its legislative agenda.
